Avalanche Acquire Yakov Trenin From Predators
The Colorado Avalanche are staying busy, as they have now acquired forward Yakov Trenin and Graham Sward from the Nashville Predators in exchange for defenseman Jeremy Hanzel and a 2025 third-round pick.
This is the second trade the Avalanche have made today, as they acquired Brandom Duhaime from the Minnesota Wild. Along with that, they also added defenseman Sean Walker yesterday (March 6), so it is clear that they are really looking to boost up their roster.
Similar to Duhaime, Trenin will provide the Avalanche's bottom six with a boost as they prepare for the playoffs. The 27-year-old is having a solid season in 2023-24 thus far, as he has 10 goals to go along with 14 points in 60 games. Along with that, he has been quite impactful with his physicality, posting an impressive 171 hits. The Avs have also acquired Sward's signing rights in this move.
As for the Predators, they are adding a decent defense prospect in Hanzel. Hanzel just signed his entry-level contract with the Avalanche earlier today. With that, getting a third-round pick for a bottom-six forward is never a bad thing.
Alas, this is a good move for both clubs. Let's see how much of an impactful Trenin can make for the Avs from here.
