Avalanche Rumors: 3 Goalie Trade Targets for Colorado

The Colorado Avalanche are looking for goaltending depth on the trade market ahead of Friday's deadline. Alexandar Georgiev leads the league in starts and appearances and there's growing concern over his work load.

Look for Avs GM Chris MacFarland to be active ahead of the deadline and add a veteran who can play some games down the stretch and be a security blanket should an injury occur in the playoffs. Here's three goalies Colorado is likely considering:

Jake Allen, Montreal Canadiens

An obvious choice as there's been reports of trade talks these past few weeks, however to this point, none have advanced to the final stages. Allen is being dangled ahead of the deadline as the Canadiens have carried three goalies the entire season and the market for proven veterans is starting to pick up in a major way. The Devils will be involved here too, so Colorado may have to up the ante to sway Kent Hughes to pull the trigger. Allen has appeared 20 games this season for the Habs, posting a .892 SV.% and has one season left on his deal at $3.85 million AAV.

Alex Nedeljkovic, Pittsburgh Penguins

Nedeljkovic is having a strong season on a bad Penguins roster. He's posted a 9-5-4 record along with a 2.85 GAA and .910 Sv.%. Impressive numbers from the 27-year-old who is owed $1.5 million against the cap this season and is a pending free agent. Dubas wants prospects in Pittsburgh, so there could certainly be something worked out between the two clubs as Colorado can easily afford to add Nedeljkovic to their crease.

Eric Comrie, Buffalo Sabres

Another pending free agent, Comrie is on the books for $1.8 million this season and also does not have any trade protection. The Sabres are expected to be re-tooling on the fly before Friday and moving Comrie could help pave the way for some more playing time for the Sabres two young netminders. Comrie's a former second round pick who hasn't quite panned out just yet. This season in Buffalo he's appeared in eight games, posting a .868 SV.%. It wouldn't cost much for the Avs to acquire him and they may want to consider the other two options before Plan C.
