I’m told the @Avalanche are signing G Annunen to a 2 Yr 1 Way Contract Extension that will carry around 833K AAV. #GoAvsGo #HockeyX #HockeyTwitter @INEOSGrenadier pic.twitter.com/ZsD41bRgUl
This Annunen extension comes shortly after the report that fellow Avalanche goaltender Pavel Francouz could be heading toward retirement due to his long-term injury trouble.
Annunen, 24, has been excellent for the Avalanche this season, so he certainly has earned this nice extension. In eight appearances with the NHL club, he has a 5-2-1 record, a 2.38 goals-against average (GAA), and a .926 save percentage (SV%). He also has two shutouts, which only shows how solid he has been when used.
Annunen has been showing the Avalanche that he can work well as their backup goalie as of late, and he has been rewarded for it with this reported two-year, one-way deal. We will need to wait and see how he performs with the club from here.
