Avalanche Trade Rumors: Set "To Do Something Big"; 4 Names Linked
The Colorado Avalanche are only two years removed from the Stanley Cup championship, and they are certainly close enough this season that they're angling to get back to the dance by making a big move by Friday's trade deadline. In fact, insider Elliotte Friedman says the Avs are certainly a team to watch for some big splashy move.
There are teams who suspect the Avalance will try to do something big. Center? No question about it. And someone said to me that they wouldn't be surprised if Colorado has gone after centers who haven't been on people's radar yet.
Rumors have been ongoing about the Avs' need for a second-line center, and in addition to the obvious center trade candidates that have been out there in Adam Henrique and Scott Laughton, Friedman suggested a couple of other names that the Avs could be considering.
"I'm going through my list, and to me, (the Arizona Coyotes' Nick) Bjugstad makes sense, Alex Kerfoot (also of the Yotes) makes sense... But (also) other players you wouldn't even have thought of".
But if a solid 2C isn't available at the right cost, perhaps GM Chris MacFarland could still pivot from the.. pivot, and go for the best top-six forward available instead. There are a few of those around if he's looking to make an impact move.
And if there's anything left over in the cupboard after acquiring a man in the middle, the Avalanche would certainly love to add a backup goalie to add a reliable, dependable second option behind Alexandar Georgiev, plus another depth piece for the blueline.
But that "something big" Friedman speaks of is most likely to be up front.
