BREAKING: Avalanche Acquire Casey Mittelstadt From Sabres
In a stunning move, the Colorado Avalanche are acquiring Casey Mittelstadt from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for defenseman Bowen Byram, according to Kevin Weekes.
Mittelstadt has been the subject of numerous trade rumors over the last couple of months, however, it had appeared the Sabres preferred to keep the talented forward.

The Avalanche acquire Mittelstadt, a 25-year-old forward boasting offensive productivity with 47 points in 62 games this season and 186 points in his NHL career.
More specifically, he's on pace for a career-best season with 14 goals, 33 assists, and 47 total points across 62 games played with the Sabres this year.
Mittelstadt's arrival addresses Colorado's need for depth at the center position, adding firepower to their forward lines.
It's a fantastic addition for the Avalanche, who acquire an elite center who can play with anyone.
In return, the Sabres acquire an equally talented defenseman, who truly has the potential to be an elite top defender in the future.

Byram, a 22-year-old promising defenseman drafted fourth overall in 2019, brings a blend of defensive prowess and offensive potential to Buffalo's blue line, complementing standout defenders Rasmus Dahlin and Owen Power.
He has eight goals, 20 total points, a +1 plus/minus rating, and 75 blocked shots over 55 games played this season.
Over his four years in the NHL, Byram has amassed 23 goals, 40 assists, 63 total points, a +16 plus/minus rating, and 168 blocked shots across 146 games played.
So far today, the Avalanche have made some notable acquisitions, bringing in Mittelstadt and defenseman Sean Walker, while sending out Byram, Ryan Johansen, and their 2025 first-round pick.
