Devils Captain Calls Out Team After Recent Loss to Sabres
New Jersey Devils captain Nico Hischier isn't happy with his teammates. Hischier didn't mince any words when asked about the team's performance following a 5-2 loss to the hands of Tage Thompson and the Buffalo Sabres.
After another disappointing defeat, Hischier called out his team for another immature performance:
We just got to find a way to win against certain teams, and we haven't done that all year. That should not happen. Just another immature performance by us. Some things (don't) change. I think everybody has to look themselves in the mirror. If you play against teams like that, the only way they're going to beat you is you beat yourself. And that's what we did here tonight again. I think everybody in here should finally learn from it and we keep addressing it until everybody gets it. Just like that, we're going to be a playoff team again.
The loss was a tough pill to swallow to say the least because it's given the Devils an even tougher hill to climb if they want to make the playoffs. New Jersey now sits five points behind the Washington Capitals and the Caps have two games in hand.
The Devils have eight games left on the season and will likely need to go at least 6-2 to have a chance. They suit up next on Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Penguins, another team who knows all about frustrating losses this season.
