Edmonton Oilers' Top 3 Trade Candidates At 2024 Deadline

The Edmonton Oilers have barely any cap space to work with at the trade deadline this season, but are looking at potentially big additions. This should see some of their roster players moved if they are to pull off any of these trades. So let's look at the top three trade candidates the Oilers have for the coming week.

Cody Ceci

It is almost a certainty that the Oilers are going to trade Cody Ceci. It has been clear for over a year that he is not a good fit beside Darnell Nurse, and the team just doesn't have anyone else to fill that void internally right now. It was speculated that the Oilers were almost able to move Ceci and a first-round pick to the Calgary Flames in exchange for Chris Tanev, but the Flames didn't want the player back. In order to open the cap space on defense to acquire anyone better, Ceci is going to be moved in that deal.

Warren Foegele

It doesn't seem like the Oilers necessarily want to move Warren Foegele and he doesn't want to leave, but in terms of movable contracts with a decent cap hit up front, he stands out. His $2.75 million could go towards a legitimate top-six winger that the Oilers need, so a trade is possible. Unless the Oilers get really creative, Foegele will be the one moved in a deal for a forward.

Brett Kulak

The Oilers have a second option to move on defense, and it is Brett Kulak. It appears as though Edmonton is keen on giving Philip Broberg a real shot eventually on the Oilers. To do this, he needs a spot on the roster. Since he is a left-shot defenseman and he will likely succeed easier on the left-side, Kulak would be the one to move. Broberg has been practicing with the team and should be a part of their playoff roster if the Bakersfield Condors are out of it. It may be easier to move Kulak at the deadline to a team in need than the offseason. Although it would break up a strong third pairing, teams may be more inclined to take on Kulak's contract instead of acquiring Ceci when the Oilers look to upgrade to a top-four defender to play beside Nurse.
