Edmonton Oilers Waive Sam Gagner
The Edmonton Oilers welcomed back Sam Gagner for his third stint with the franchise earlier this season and it seems like they've seen enough.
Gagner was placed on waivers on Tuesday and is expected to clear and then report to the AHL. Gagner signed a one-year two-way deal worth $775,000 in late October and managed to dress in 27 games this season.
The 34-year-old produced 10 points while only seeing just over 10 minutes of ice-time a night. He doesn't have the legs he once used to, but the veteran forward is versatile to play anywhere in the lineup and could see a recall later in the season should the Oilers have injury troubles down the stretch.
We'll see if anyone takes a flyer on Gagner but to this point, there doesn't seem to be a ton of interest as GM Ken Holland has been working the phones on trade calls and likely tried to include Gagner in a package.
Edmonton currently is projected to have $2.3 million in deadline cap space and have several different trade conversations on the go as they look to find a top-six forward and top-four defenseman. No easy task for Holland as the Oilers GM admitted he's going to be aggressive before Friday's deadline.
I’m having a very hard time figuring out what exactly Connor Brown does better than Sam Gagner

Sam Gagner has been placed on waivers by the Edmonton Oilers. That's an interesting move in our eyes. Gagner was very good bottom-six forward in those games in which he played this season. pic.twitter.com/ZX0LwSsJLk
