Flyers Make Shocking Healthy Scratches
John Tortorella is once again proving why he is so unpredictable as the Philadelphia Flyers are making captain Sean Couturier, Cam Atkinson, Denis Gurianov, and Marc Staal all healthy scratches for the game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Flyers have to make a change somehow, and for now, it seems like making this decision to wake up the team is the way it is going to go. Philadelphia has lost three of the past four games and allowed six or more goals in all three of those games.
While previously holding a sizable lead on the trailing teams for third place in the division, the Flyers' slump has them just one point ahead of the Washington Capitals with one fewer game remaining. Very close behind them with a game in hand on the Flyers is the New York Islanders as well.
Not only has Couturier been in the bad books of Tortorella for a little while now ever since he has been struggling and got sent down to the fourth line, he was named captain of the team just over a month ago. While it is big news that Couturier and Atkinson are both scratched as they are major parts of the leadership group, it is less surprising that Gurianov and Staal are.
