Hurricanes Rumors: Carolina to Trade for Jake Guentzel
The Carolina Hurricanes are closing in on making a huge splash as they are in advanced trade talks with the Pittsburgh Penguins around Jake Guentzel.
From the sounds of it, the 'Canes are also competing with the Vegas Golden Knights, Florida Panthers, Vancouver Canucks and Colorado Avalanche. Carolina isn't normally a team that expresses interest in high-costing rentals, but they've had issues finding the big goal when they need it most and Guentzel can help in that department.
The veteran winger is in his final season of his contract, being owed $6 million against the cap. Expect to see a third-team involved to help get his cap hit down to 75% for the Hurricanes. Guentzel is working his way back from injury and is expected to be cleared for action in the coming days.
The Penguins winger is a two-time 40-goal man who has produced a point-a-game in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Pittsburgh has no choice to re-tool on the fly and it's believed Kyle Dubas is looking for NHL ready talent via young roster players or top prospects instead of draft picks.
Would Seth Jarvis be included? Would be a high cost for the Hurricanes. Here's the very latest on the Guentzel market:
Kyle Dubas’ focus has been on Jake Guentzel trade. His staff, which includes former GM Doug Wilson, are going through machinations of potential/likelihood trades of other players.

Nothing being held up by Guentzel situation.
Might not be Guentzel going first. (1)

From what I’ve been told tonight, Jake Guentzel isn’t going to Vancouver unless Kyle Dubas’ asking price goes down. The Canucks would love to land him. But Dubas is asking for a price that they aren’t currently willing to pay.

Gonna be interesting.

> #LAKings are cooking, placing two on waivers for roster/cap flexibility. They clearly don’t want to lose Moverare.
> Some think #Canes are favorite for Guentzel.
> #GoAvsGo and #VGK both retained their 2024 1st Rd picks after big moves yesterday. 👀👀
