Hurricanes Rumors: Carolina to Trade for Jake Guentzel

The Carolina Hurricanes are closing in on making a huge splash as they are in advanced trade talks with the Pittsburgh Penguins around Jake Guentzel.

From the sounds of it, the 'Canes are also competing with the Vegas Golden Knights, Florida Panthers, Vancouver Canucks and Colorado Avalanche. Carolina isn't normally a team that expresses interest in high-costing rentals, but they've had issues finding the big goal when they need it most and Guentzel can help in that department.

The veteran winger is in his final season of his contract, being owed $6 million against the cap. Expect to see a third-team involved to help get his cap hit down to 75% for the Hurricanes. Guentzel is working his way back from injury and is expected to be cleared for action in the coming days.

The Penguins winger is a two-time 40-goal man who has produced a point-a-game in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Pittsburgh has no choice to re-tool on the fly and it's believed Kyle Dubas is looking for NHL ready talent via young roster players or top prospects instead of draft picks.

Would Seth Jarvis be included? Would be a high cost for the Hurricanes. Here's the very latest on the Guentzel market:
