Hurricanes Rumors: Carolina's Interest In Goalie Market "Quieting"

As the NHL trade deadline approaches on March 8th, the Carolina Hurricanes' pursuit of a goaltender appears to be losing momentum, according to Luke DeCock.

Initial buzz surrounding the team's interest in bolstering their goaltending depth has notably quieted in recent days.

This shift in focus can be attributed to a series of developments within the Hurricanes' goaltending roster, including the solid performances of rookie Pyotr Kochetkov, the impending return of Frederik Andersen from a prolonged absence due to a blood-clotting issue, the recovery of Antti Raanta from injury, and the unexpected contributions of Spencer Martin since his waiver acquisition.

This season, Kochetkov holds a .910 save percentage, 2.41 GAA, three shutouts, and a 16-11-3 record across 32 games played.

Hurricanes President and General Manager Don Waddell has hinted at the possibility of streamlining the team's goaltending ensemble to free up salary cap space, acknowledging the surplus of talent in this critical position.

Since joining the Hurricanes, Martin holds an impressive .922 SV%, 1.97 GAA, and a 4-0-1 record.

However, Waddell emphasizes that any decision regarding the goaltenders would be made cautiously, highlighting the importance of maintaining depth to ensure the team's competitiveness.
