Toffoli had been picking up a lot of chatter in the rumor mill in recent days, as extension talks between him and the Devils were not making progress. Now, with the Devils not holding a playoff spot and Toffoli being a pending UFA, they have decided to officially part ways with him.
This is the second big addition that the Jets have made this season, as they also acquired Sean Monahan from the Montreal Canadiens last month. Toffoli will be a major addition to the Jets' already strong forward group and provide them with a big boost on their power play.
Toffoli, 31, has appeared in 61 games this season with the Devils, where he has 26 goals to go along with 44 points. Overall, he was solid while with the Devils, but the club ultimately had no choice but to move him given his pending UFA status.
It will be intriguing to see how well Toffoli performs with the Jets from here, but they absolutely look even better adding him to their group.
