Kings Trade Rumors: Proposed Deal Lands Tyler Toffoli Back in LA

The Los Angeles Kings have some injury issues up front to deal with. First, Viktor Arvidsson headed back to long-term injured reserve recently after just four games in his return from back surgery. Then, Adrian Kempe went down this past week and is out week-to-week, though expected back at the end of March. In the meantime, that's a lot of firepower out of the lineup for a team trying to hang on to a playoff spot.

According to hockey insider David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, those injuries triggered Kings GM Rob Blake into action, and he's got his eye on a former King, Tyler Toffoli.

He's already reached out (to the New Jersey Devils), he wanted to know what the price is (for Toffoli) after Kempe went down with his injury.

With that, NHL Network has proposed a deal that could get this done for Blake and the Kings, and it would look like this:

Los Angeles Kings Receive:

  • Tyler Toffoli, F

New Jersey Devils Receive:

  • Arthur Kaliyev, F
  • Samuel Helenius, F
  • 2025 3rd-Round Pick

The Kings get back a fan favorite, a Cup winner, and a player who's familiar with some of the group there. He would immediately become their leading goal scorer, with 26 thus far on the season. And with Arvidsson and Kempe out, the need is there. But does Toffoli turn the Kings back into a true contender out West?

For the Devils, their season is really teetering on the edge right now, as they're currently eight points back of a Wild Card spot, with a couple of other teams to climb over as well. With this deal, they get to turn an expiring deal into a nice return. Kaliyev, while having a tough year in LA, is a recent second-rounder who could be primed for a breakthrough in a new situation.

But the Devils are still said to want to re-sign Toffoli, as he's been a great fit there this season. If they can make some progress on an extension that works for both sides, and somehow chip into that deficit in the standings this week, New Jersey could hang on to him.
