Leafs Trade Rumors: Canadiens “Not Gonna Blink” on David Savard Price

The Toronto Maple Leafs have made a move to add another defenseman today, but are they still in the running for a more prominent blueliner in David Savard of the Montreal Canadiens? Several sources say that the Leafs have been keenly interested in the 33-year-old.

He's been called "a logical fit" for the Buds.

But according to insider Renaud Lavoie of TVA, it’s a staring contest right now on the price it’ll take to land Savard, and Lavoie is pretty sure the Habs will not lose that contest.

If the Maple leafs think that the Canadiens are going to blink, they are not gonna blink. They are really waiting for the Maple Leafs to blink, and we will see if they do so.

Are they going to pay a ... first rounder for him? Can it be a player not on the roster right now?

The key thing about Savard that raises his price is that he isn’t a rental. He’s signed through next year at 3.5M and is a top-four defenseman, as opposed to the other rentals that the Leafs have brought in over the past week, Joel Edmundson and Ilya Lyubushkin.

Savard has logged over 20 minutes of ice time once again this year for Montreal, has 15 points in 40 games, is once again a shot-blocker supreme (109 so far this season) and can kill penalties.

But in the end, whether it's because of other moves they've made, or because they won't pay the price it'll take, Lavoie doesn't believe the Leafs are going to land him.

Do I believe David Savard is going to be traded to the leafs? As of right now, no.

The trade deadline isn't until 3pm ET on Friday, there's still time for plenty more activity.
