Montreal Canadiens' Top 3 Trade Candidates At 2024 Deadline

The Montreal Canadiens have fallen down the standings and are in a place to sell some assets this season. The team already moved Sean Monahan, but where they are, that shouldn't be all. Teams are going to show interest right before the deadline, so let's take a look at the top three trade candidates for Montreal.

Jake Allen

The Canadiens' general manager has already expressed that he doesn't want to hold three goalies the entire season, but that will only change if one is traded. Jake Allen is the veteran and has had an up-and-down season. He has played some good hockey for the Canadiens in his time there, but a change of scenery should do him well. With a strong and more experienced group in front of him, his numbers would rise. Plenty of teams need the help in net and Allen could provide that for cheaper.

David Savard

The Canadiens have a logjam on the back-end and are moving towards a younger group to take them into the future. There isn't a desperation to trade him this season as much as there would be for someone on an expiring contract, but the Canadiens would get more for him if they did move him. Savard is a defense-first, top-four, right-shot d-man that many teams would love to have. His contract ends at the end of next season and there is interest.

Jordan Harris

I already mentioned the logjam on the back-end, and Jordan Harris will be impacted by that too. While he does have another year left on his deal and is a RFA at the end of it, there are many other young defensemen that will take his spot. The GM is reportedly trying to find a destination where he will get a good opportunity to succeed because it very likely won't be in Montreal.
