New Jersey Devils' Top 3 Trade Candidates At 2024 Deadline

The New Jersey Devils are starting to lose any advantage they had to get into a playoff spot this season as the struggles continue. With time winding down before the deadline and the team being only three games above .500, it is very possible that they sell or even try to make a move to help out next year as well. Here's a look at the team's top three trade candidates ahead of the 2024 deadline.

Tyler Toffoli

Tyler Toffoli has been a solid addition for the most part in New Jersey. He has done his job and scored what has been expected of him. But at times he has gone a bit cold. He leads the team with 26 goals, but is a pending UFA on a non-playoff team. If they can't get him signed or have any indication that he really wants to re-sign, the right choice to get a great return is to move him to a contender since his cap hit is also great for what he brings.

Vitek Vanecek

Vitek Vanecek isn't expected to be out for very long, but he and the rest of the Devils' goaltending hasn't been good this season. The Devils are headline hogs when it comes to potentially adding a big-named goalie, particularly Jacob Markstrom from the Calgary Flames. So if Markstrom or someone else is to be brought in, Vanecek is likely on his way out. He has one more year left on his deal at $3.4 million AAV and would be best used as a 1a or 1b as he can be streaky.

Colin Miller

The Devils acquired Kurtis MacDermid recently and is capable of playing forward and defense. Even with Dougie Hamilton out for the season, the team has more than enough help on the back-end, making Colin Miller expendable. He is a UFA at a decent price ($1.85 million AAV) and can fill in on the right side for depth for contenders. They might as well move him if they can.
