NHL Rumors: 3 Teams Struck Out On Tyler Toffoli
The New Jersey Devils have heavily underachieved this season. After an impressive 2022-23 campaign, the expectation was that they would be contenders this campaign. Instead, they currently do not hold a playoff spot and traded away pending UFA Tyler Toffoli to the Winnipeg Jets because of it.
While the Jets ended up winning the Toffoli sweepstakes, they were not the only team that expressed interest in him leading up to the deadline. On the most recent episode of 32 Thoughts: The Podcast, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported that the Edmonton Oilers, Vancouver Canucks, and Los Angeles Kings were all in the mix.
There were plenty of rumblings that the Oilers, Canucks, and Kings were all looking for a scoring winger at the deadline, so it is far from surprising to hear Friedman report that they were in the mix for Toffoli. However, in the end, the Jets landed the winger, and he should be a notable part of their playoff push from here.
Toffoli will provide a boost to the Jets' forward group as they look to go on a run this season, as he is a high-impact scorer and works well on the power play to go along with it.
In 61 games this season, Toffoli has 26 goals to go along with 44 points and a minus-15 rating.
