NHLTR Mock Trade: Devils move Tyler Toffoli to the Edmonton Oilers

Our NHLTR Mock Trade series continues with another stop in Edmonton as the Oilers are looking for a top-six winger. There's been reports the team is out on the Jake Guentzel sweepstakes in Pittsburgh and for today's piece we turn to another potential trade partner in the New Jersey Devils.

NHLTR Mock Trade: Oilers acquire Tyler Toffoli from the Devils for prospect Xavier Bourgault and 2024 1st-round pick

Salary retention will once again be the buzz word at this season's trade deadline and there's likely some that would need to take place here as Toffoli is on the books for $4.25 million for the rest of this season. The Devils don't necessarily want to move him as they are still trying to make the playoffs but their recent play and lack of trades, could spell the end of their hopes. Toffoli is a gamer, he's played on the biggest stage and he's produced.

This season with the Devils, Toffoli's put up 26 goals and 44 points in 60 games and his 88 games of playoff experience is what makes him such an attractive winger for not only the Oilers but several other contending teams. Warren Foegele could also be a candidate for this trade and he'd help balance things out financially and give the Devils a depth forward to add for their stretch run.

Bourgault is a former first-round pick from 2021 and he's been on a steady development curve in the minors, producing 17 points in 50 games this season after posting 34 points his first season as a pro.

The Devils could pull this deal off before the deadline and move the first-rounder for a starting goalie. New Jersey can't get a save and are 4-6-0 on their last 10, slipping them further behind the Flyers and Lightning for playoff spots.

Thoughts on our latest mock trade, let's us have it in the comments.
