Rangers Rumors: Insider Names 3 Depth Forward Trade Targets

The New York Rangers are preparing to be buyers at the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline. It is understandable, as they are one of the top teams in the NHL and are in a position to add to their roster because of it.

In his most recent 32 Thoughts column, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman discussed the prospect of the Rangers aiming to improve their bottom six before the deadline passes. From there, he mentioned forwards Colin Blackwell (Chicago Blackhawks), Kevin Rooney (Calgary Flames), and Tyler Johnson (Blackhawks) as potential options.

The Rangers certainly know Blackwell and Rooney, as both players previously played for the Rangers. Blackwell is expected to be dealt at the deadline, as the Blackhawks are rebuilding, and he has an expiring contract. As for Rooney, he is another pending UFA who could generate interest from a club like the Blueshirts if they want more of a two-way center for their fourth line.

As for Johnson, he has been connected to the Rangers at certain points this season. It makes sense, as they could use more scoring in their bottom six, and Johnson has the potential to provide that when playing at his best. He could slot in nicely as their third-line center and could even be an option for their power play at times if acquired.

We will need to wait and see if the Rangers land one of these three before the deadline passes from here.
