Red Wings Recall Jonatan Berggren
For much of this season, Detroit Red Wings forward Jonatan Berggren was the subject of trade rumors. However, he did not find a new home yesterday and will remain with the Red Wings organization for the remainder of the season because of it.
Now, after not being traded by the Red Wings, Berggren has been given a promotion, as he has been recalled by the Original Six club.
Berggren, 23, has been impactful while with the NHL squad this season, as he has two goals to go along with five points and a plus-4 rating. He also has been nothing short of fantastic down in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins, posting 19 goals and 46 points in 43 games played. As a result, it is absolutely fair to state that he has earned this latest call-up.
A roster spot for Berggren opened up because the Red Wings traded Klim Kostin to the San Jose Sharks yesterday for defenseman Radim Simek. Simek was immediately sent down to the Griffins as well.
While Berggren picked up a lot of interest on the trade market, the Red Wings are instead giving him another shot. We will need to wait and see how impactful he can with the Red Wings from here.
