Sharks Acquire Klim Kostin From Red Wings
The San Jose Sharks have acquired forward Klim Kostin from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for defenseman Radim Simek and a 2024 seventh-round pick.
The Red Wings added Kostin this past offseason from the Edmonton Oilers. After posting a career-best 11 goals and 21 points with the Oilers last season, Kostin struggled to find his footing with the Red Wings. In 33 games with the Red Wings, he had just three goals and an assist. Now, he will look to turn things back around as a Shark.
Kostin should get plenty of chances while with the Sharks as their forward group is not particularly strong. It will be interesting to see how much of an impact he can make while with San Jose from here.
As for Simek, the Red Wings are adding to their defensive depth as they prepare for the postseason. In 44 games this season, he has one goal, two assists, and a minus-13 rating.
It has also been reported that Simek's time with the Red Wings organization will start with him down in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Overall, this is a pretty small move that gives two players the opportunity of fresh starts. It will be intriguing to see how this trade impacts both clubs from here.
