Stars Rumors: 3 Contract Extension Candidates

The 2024 NHL Trade Deadline saw several teams make moves, and the league looks far different now because of it. However, now that the deadline has passed, we won’t see any more trades until after the season. Although this is the case, we still could see teams sign players to contract extensions. As a result, we here at NHLTR will be going over three contract extension candidates from each team.

In this latest edition of the series, let's focus on the Dallas Stars.

Matt Duchene: The Stars hit a home run when they signed Matt Duchene to a one-year deal. The veteran forward was bought out by the Nashville Predators this past offseason and has been a perfect fit in the Stars’ lineup since. He’s producing like a top-six forward, and the Stars would be wise to get him signed to an extension because of it.

Joe Pavelski: Joe Pavelski may be 39 years old, but he is still an immensely impactful forward on the Stars’ roster. He is producing well yet again this season, and if the veteran forward makes it clear that he wants to play another season, the Stars would be silly not to bring him back for the 2024-25 campaign.

Chris Tanev: Before the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline passed, the Stars acquired Chris Tanev from the Calgary Flames. It was a notable move for the Stars, as they desperately needed help on their right side. Because of this, there have been reports that they are trying to extend Tanev. They would be wise to, as he is an experienced top-four defenseman who gives them plenty of experience and solid penalty killing.
