Vegas Golden Knights' 3 Worst Contracts of 2023-24
The Vegas Golden Knights are a tough team to figure out. They get production from everywhere and don't have any real bad contracts this season. That being said, we are nitpicking and finding the three worst on the team anyways.
Alec Martinez
Alec Martinez has aged just fine considering he is nearly 37 years old and was playing a pretty big role on the back-end of the Golden Knights. That was until recently. He was injured, but since he has been cleared to play, he has only gotten in a few games and sat on the sidelines the others. The veteran hasn't played since March 21 and has really had a decreased role lately, especially since Noah Hanifin has come over. Martinez has a cap hit of $5.25 million AAV until the end of the season and Vegas is very likely moving on from him when the contract expires.
Anthony Mantha
The Golden Knights didn't take the entirety of Anthony Mantha's contract when they acquired him from the Washington Capitals, so just for them, it isn't a horrible contract. Mantha has been able to find some of his old game this season and has produced. This took a bit, but it has carried over to the Golden Knights. While he has just one goal in his first seven games for Vegas, he has five assists in the last four games for six points in 11 games overall. He is playing on the third line and although his cap hit on Vegas is $2.85 million AAV until the end of the season, he has an overall cap hit of $5.7 million AAV.
Ivan Barbashev
While I was being picky with Mantha, I am being even more so for Ivan Barbashev. There aren't many contracts the Golden Knights can look at and not like, including Barbashev's. While he has not lived up to standards offensively like he showed on Vegas' run last season once acquired, he has been solid, though inconsistent. He has 18 goals and 42 points in 73 games at $5 million AAV after 16 points in 23 games last season and 18 in 22 games in the playoffs for the Golden Knights.
