3 Best Contracts On The Ottawa Senators
The Ottawa Senators have had another disappointing season and have wasted another year of a lot of talented young players, a good deal of which are on good contracts. While I could include a couple more like Jakob Chychrun and Tim Stutzle, the following three are arguably the best this season.
Drake Batherson
Drake Batherson plays to the level of the other talented young core, but gets paid significantly less, fortunately for the Senators. He has been one of the most consistent players on the team for the past four seasons, and 2023-24 has been no different. While he is earning under $5 million per year for three more seasons, the 25-year-old winger has produced 27 goals and 62 points in 77 games. Batherson plays over 18 minutes per game and is keeping up with the players being paid millions more.
Brady Tkachuk
While Brady Tkachuk's offense may never be to the level of his brother's, he brings an element to every game that is very rare. He is an elite power forward and just recently registered 16 hits in one game. This is to go along with being a leader (captain of the team) and being the team leader in goals (34) while also recording 68 points in 76 games. Tkachuk is so valuable to his team and he tries to drag them into the fight every night. He isn't the reason why the Senators aren't making the playoffs each season. He is under contract for four more years at $8.205 million AAV.
Shane Pinto
Shane Pinto served a 41-game suspension to kick off this season and it gave the Senators all the leverage to sign him. It was somewhat of a one-year, prove-it $775,000 deal and he has outperformed that by a long shot. With a couple of injuries, Pinto is now centering the top line and has recorded eight goals and 26 points in 36 games, mainly as a middle to bottom-6 center though. He is worth much more than league minimum this season.
