3 Best Contracts On The Washington Capitals
The Washington Capitals just clinched the final spot in the postseason in 2023-24 and it's time to look at some of the best contracts that helped get them there. This team has found success by committee and done so in an unlikely season. Here are the three best contracts on the Capitals this season.
Charlie Lindgren
If the Capitals can thank one member of the team for making it to the playoffs, it's Charlie Lindgren. He started the season as the backup and took over as the starter for much of the season, going 25-16-7 with a .911 SV% and six shutouts. If the team didn't have him step up in net, they would be near the bottom of the league as the goal differential is already very poor for a playoff team. Lindgren only makes $1.1 million AAV through next season.
Dylan Strome
Dylan Strome has become a major contributor for the Capitals since signing there at the beginning of last season. He has multiple 65+ point seasons and is a top-six centerman. Strome is second on the team in goals to Alex Ovechkin and leads the team in points with 67. He plays a ton on the power play and with so little offense, Washington would really struggle to produce without him. For the role he plays, $5 million AAV for four more years in his prime is a great deal.
Rasmus Sandin
Rasmus Sandin has played a big role on the back-end in Washington since being acquired at the 2023 trade deadline. He stepped up when John Carlson went down and the young d-man put up a lot of points. He isn't producing at nearly a point-per-game this season, but he is still in a top-four role playing a lot of key minutes. Until the end of this season, Sandin's cap hit is $1.4 million AAV before it jumped to $4.6 million for five more years.
