Dallas Stars Bring In an MVP Ahead of Game 3

Down 0-2 in their first-round series to the Vegas Golden Knights, the Dallas Stars know they need a spark of some kind in Game 3 on Saturday night, and to that end, they've recalled the AHL's scoring champion and MVP, Mavrik Bourque.

The newest 'Dallas Mavrik', the Stars' first-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft (30th overall), has two straight 20-goal seasons under his belt with the AHL's Texas Stars, including a 26-goal, 51-assist campaign this year for a league-leading 77 points in 71 games. He also set a franchise record with 256 shots on goal. After mustering only 21 shots at the Vegas net in a 3-1 loss in Game 2, that should be a welcomed addition for Dallas.

Bourque also just had a 4-point night in the first game of the AHL playoffs, with two goals and two assists.

The 22-year-old also recently made his NHL debut with a game back on April 6 for the Dallas Stars against the Chicago Blackhawks. Bourque played just under 11 minutes and collected two shots on goal.

If Mason Marchment can't go tomorrow night after sustaining an injury in Game 2, Bourque could very well be asked to step into a top-nine role immediately in his first Stanley Cup playoff game.

Texas is off until the AHL Division Semi-Finals begin next Thursday, so whether this is a long-term stay for Bourque in Dallas remains to be seen.
