The Devils had a disastrous 2023-24 season. After taking a major step forward and looking like legitimate contenders in 2022-23, they struggled immensely this campaign and missed the playoffs. As a result of their season ending early, it was the perfect time for Meier to have surgery.
Meier, 27, appeared in 69 games during this season with the Devils, where he posted 28 goals to go along with 52 points. While it was a somewhat shaky year for the star, his played down the stretch improved noticeably. He ended the season with 30 points over his last 26 games. Clearly, he started to adjust more the Devils' system as the year rolled on.
Now that Meier has had surgery, the expectation is that it will only help him improve next season. He should be fully healthy at the start of the year, and that could lead to the star's numbers being even better in 2024-25.
