The Hurricanes were in danger of losing Morrow's signing rights, as he would have become an unrestricted free agent this offseason if they did not sign him by August. However, now the prospect of that cannot occur due to Morrow inking his entry-level deal.
Morrow, 21, was selected by the Hurricanes with the 40th overall pick of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. Since then, he has emerged as one of the top defensemen in all of college hockey. Now, the right-shot defenseman will get the chance to begin his professional career with this ELC signed.
Morrow had a strong 2022-23 season with UMass Amherst, as he had six goals to goals to go along with 30 points in 37 games played. Over the course of his three-year tenure with the school, he had 26 goals to go along with 94 points in 109 games.
Nevertheless, this is big news for the Canes, as they now officially have one of their best prospects locked up. It will be intriguing to see how much of an impact the right-shot defenseman can make for the Canes from here.
