This is brutal news for a Panthers team that is currently fighting to secure the top spot in the Atlantic Division. However, they will now need to try to accomplish this without Verhaeghe in the lineup. That is far from ideal and will be even more so if his injury keeps him out for the start of the postseason.
Verhaeghe has been simply excellent for the Panthers this season, as he has 33 goals, 71 points, and a plus-15 rating in 75 games played. For the second season in a row, he is nearly a point-per-game player, and he has been such a big part of their overall success during the 2023-24 campaign.
The Panthers will now be hoping that Verhaeghe's injury does not impact his availability for the postseason and that he does not suffer any setbacks in his recovery. We will need to keep an eye out over his recovery down the stretch.
In 329 career NHL games split between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Panthers, Verhaeghe has 126 goals, 122 assists, 248 points, and a plus-64 rating.
