Red Wings Rumors: Justin Holl Becoming Trade Candidate

The Detroit Red Wings took a step forward this season but just missed out on the playoffs. They are expected to have another busy offseason as they look to continue to head in the right direction. However, they also have several pending UFAs, which include Patrick Kane, Shayne Gostisbehere, David Perron, and Daniel Sprong.

Because of this and the Red Wings' crowded blueline, there has been a good amount of talk about the prospect of Detroit looking to trade Justin Holl this offseason.

Holl created trade chatter leading up to the deadline. It is understandable, as he has an expensive $3.4 million cap hit and had an underwhelming first season in Detroit. In 38 games, the right-shot defender had just five assists.

If the Red Wings trade Holl, there is a good chance that they will either need to retain some of his salary or add a sweetener if they hope to successfully move him.

Holl has had success in the NHL, so there could be interest in him. When at his best, he can be a serviceable bottom-pairing defenseman and works well on the penalty kill. Let's see what Detroit ends up doing with him this offseason from here.
