Wild Rumors: Filip Gustavsson Becoming Trade Candidate

The Minnesota Wild made a major move last week when they signed Marc-Andre Fleury to a one-year contract extension. With this move, Fleury will continue to be a key part of the Wild's roster. Along with that, Fleury will serve as a mentor for top Wild prospect Jesper Wallstedt.

Due to Fleury staying put and Wallstedt looking ready to become a full-time NHL goaltender, fellow netminder Filip Gustavsson is starting to pick up a lot of chatter as a trade candidate heading into the offseason.

Gustavsson, 25, has made it clear that he recognizes the possibility of him being moved this summer is there. While speaking to reporters at the Wild's locker room cleanout on Friday, he said this: "“We’ll see. There is always a business side to hockey. I like it here and would love to be back next year and try to redeem what happened this year. We’ll see."

The 2023-24 season was a tough one for Gustavsson. In 45 games, he posted a 20-18-4 record, a 3.06 GAA, and a .899 SV%. It was a step in the wrong direction for the promising netminder, as he had a .931 SV% and a 2.10 GAA in 39 appearances just last season.

We will need to wait and see what the Wild end up doing with Gustavsson from here. If he is made available, there should be interest after his successful 2022-23 campaign. The chance for him to bounce back is there.
