Anaheim Ducks Sign High-Scoring Defense Prospect

The Anaheim Ducks have added a high-scoring offensive defenceman to their ranks, signing prospect Rodwin Dionicio to a three-year entry-level contract.

Dionicio, 20, was a fifth-round pick of the Ducks in last year's draft, and delivered a strong season with the Windsor Spitfires and Saginaw Spirit of the OHL. He popped 25 goals to go with 48 assists for 73 points in 60 games. He also threw his 6'2", 200-pound frame around, picking up 100 penalty minutes. He also had 17 points in 17 games to lead all defensemen through the first three rounds of the OHL playoffs. He has 154 points in 167 OHL games over the last three years.

The New Jersey-born, Switzerland-raised Dionicio has also been a staple for the Swiss side at the last three World Junior Championships.

“I’m so happy to be able to sign my ELC with Anaheim,” said Dionicio. “I want to thank the organization here in Saginaw for trusting me in my game and for helping me to develop off the ice as well.”

He is likely to start his pro career next season in the AHL with the San Diego Gulls.
