Hurricanes Rumors: Brady Skjei Linked to Division Rival

Brady Skjei is one of the top free agents who could hit the market this offseason. The left-shot defenseman will generate a ton of interest, as he plays top-four minutes, contributes offensively, and is steady defensively.

If the Hurricanes are unable to re-sign Skjei before July 1, one of their division rivals are expected to be in the mix for his services - the Washington Capitals.

The Capitals need to improve their defense if they hope to take a step forward next season. It is clear that they need some serious help in their top four, and adding a player like Skjei would give them just that. He would work well on their second pairing and be a strong addition to both of their special team units if signed.

Skjei, 30, is coming off a strong season in 2023-24. In 80 regular season games this campaign with the Hurricanes, he had 13 goals to go along with a career high 47 points. He then followed that up by having a big postseason, as he had one goals, nine points, and a plus-5 rating in 11 playoff games.

We will now need to wait and see if the Capitals can successfully land Skjei this offseason from here.
