Islanders Rumors: Oliver Wahlstrom Expected to Be Moved

Leading up to the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline, New York Islanders forward Oliver Wahlstrom created plenty of chatter as a trade candidate. The 2018 first-round pick saw his role on the Islanders decrease significantly this season.

While the Islanders elected to keep Wahlstrom for the season, they are expected to shop him during this offseason as well.

Wahlstrom, 23, struggled mightily during the 2023-24 season, as he had just two goals, six points, and a minus-6 rating in 32 games played. This came after the former top prospect tore his ACL during the 2022-23 campaign.

While Wahlstrom had some serious struggles this season, there should be teams out there willing to take a chance on him. This is especially so when noting that he is a former top prospect who can be had for a cheap price.

Some rebuilding teams could look at Wahlstrom as an option if they believe that he can get his career back on track. Wahlstrom has shown promise in the past, as he posted 12 goals and 21 points in 44 games back in 2020-21.
