NHL News: 3 Finalists Named For Norris Trophy

There weren't any 100-point defensemen this season in the NHL, but a couple of them came pretty close. Quinn Hughes and Cale Makar both cracked the 90-point barrier, and join Roman Josi on the list of three finalists for the Norris Trophy as the top D-man for the 2023-24 season.

It's Makar's 4th consecutive season as a finalist for the award, winning it in 2021-22. This year, the 25-year-old finished his fifth season with the Colorado Avalanche, registering 21 goals and 69 assists for 90 points along with a +15 rating and a career-high 148 blocked shots. He also logged 24:46 of ice time per game, 9th i the NHL.

Hughes, 24, becomes the first Vancouver Canucks defenseman in franchise history to be a finalist for the Norris. He finished with 17 goals and 75 assists for 92 points, while finishing fourth in the NHL with a +38 rating, and 10th with 24:41 TOI per night.

Josi of the Nashville Predators rounds out the trio of finalists, and he led all defensemen in the league with 23 goals and had the 3rd-highest point total, at 85. He also led all d-men in in shots on goal with 268. The 33-year-old makes his third appearance as a finalist for the Norris, having won the award in 2019-20.

The award, won last year by Erik Karlsson, will be handed out in June.
