NHL Rumors: Penguins & Predators Could Strike Summer Trade

The Pittsburgh Penguins are preparing for what should be a busy offseason. They had another disappointing season, as they missed the playoffs for the second campaign in a row. As a result, changes are on the way for the Penguins.

One player who they are expected to shop this offseason is Reilly Smith. The veteran winger was a very popular trade target leading up to the deadline, but the Penguins elected to keep him. One team that was linked to him this campaign was the Nashville Predators, and they are likely to target him again.

The Predators are looking to improve their forward group after a strong season. It is clear that their middle six could use a real boost, and there is no question that Smith would give them just that. This is especially true if he finds his previous scoring touch.

Smith appeared in 76 games this season with the Penguins, where he had 13 goals to go along with 40 points and a plus-3 rating.

We will need to wait and see if the Penguins and Predators strike a deal centering around Smith this offseason from here.
