Senators Rumors: Ottawa Looking to Trade Joonas Korpisalo
The Ottawa Senators tried to trade Joonas Korpisalo in-season during the 2023-24 campaign and couldn't find a suitor. Now their attention could turn to ramping up the trade conversations for the 30-year-old netminder this offseason.
In Garrioch's latest, the Sens tried to move Korpisalo at the deadline. The Postmedia scribe believes there's no chance of a buyout here, but I don't understand how a $1.3M buyout cost for next 8 years would be a deterrent. That's not a crazy amount of $ with an escalating cap.

There's a number of teams looking to add a goaltender this summer including the New Jersey Devils, LA Kings, Colorado Avalanche and the Detroit Red Wings. Korpisalo could certainly become a target for many of these teams closer to the NHL Draft in June when trade talks are expected to spike as free agency approaches.
Korpisalo has four seasons left on his contract at $4 million against the cap. He owns a modified no-trade clause where he submits a list of 10 teams each July on who he's not willing to approve a deal to. Of course, sometimes once approached, the approval list can change in a hurry.
Ottawa suffered another disappointing season in 2023-24, missing the playoffs. The expectations were extremely high going into the season, but an inconsistent start derailed their chances of staying in the playoff conversation.
Korpisalo posted 3.27 GAA in 55 games last season and owns a career .901 save percentage.
