3 Potential Free-Agent Destinations for Brett Pesce

The Carolina Hurricanes have a number of major decisions to make on their roster and that includes the future of shut-down defenseman Brett Pesce. He's going to be one of the most coveted d-men on the open market and it's likely his days in Carolina are numbered.

Here's three teams who are well-suited potential destinations for the right-handed defenseman:

New Jersey Devils

The Devils are in the market for a top-four defenseman and adding Pesce to their mix of already talented blueliners could help push New Jersey over the top. They have already landed Jacob Markstrom in net, and adding Pesce could turn them into a defensive juggernaut. Tom Fitzgerald is trying to move his #10 pick for a top-line winger, so if the money is still available come July 1, look for the Devils to be a dark horse in the Pesce sweepstakes.

Detroit Red Wings

After missing with signing Justin Holl last summer, Steve Yzerman needs to fix a mistake and add Pesce to his blue line. Detroit needs defenseman and is likely in the market for at least two free agents this summer. Even with Mo Seider taking up the #1 spot, Pesce would provide some defensive stability to a young Red Wings team who could use much more of it.

Utah HC

Utah has money to burn this summer and with a strong defensive market for free agents, could zone in on Pesce. Utah doesn't currently have any d-men under contract for next season so there's no doubt something has to give obviously. Utah would give Pesce a chance to shine on their top pair and could be an up-and-coming team he's looking to grow with and eventually win with. If Pesce's looking to win a Cup next season, Utah ain't it, but if he's looking to cash in, it could be the perfect landing spot.
