3 Potential Free-Agent Destinations for Sean Monahan
The Winnipeg Jets are expected to make some changes to their roster this offseason which could mean pending free-agent forward Sean Monahan is not in their cards for next season. Monahan is likely hitting the open market on July 1 and will have a tremendous amount of interest from onlooking teams.
The 29-year-old finished with 26 goals and 59 points in a rare 83-game season. Yes, thanks to a trade from the Montreal Canadiens, Monahan appeared in 83 games last season between the Habs and Jets. He'll be looking for some stability on his next contract and here's who could be interested this summer:
Nashville Predators
The Preds are trying to find some more secondary scoring up front and GM Barry Trotz has a ton of cap space available to land a forward or two. Monahan would be a great fit behind Ryan O'Reilly and has been a proven complimentary offensive weapon for several seasons. Considering the market, the weather, and the team exceeding expectations this past season, Monahan likely has Nashville high on his list.
Boston Bruins
Even if the Bruins sign Elias Lindholm, they could be interested in adding Monahan. If they don't land Lindholm, look for Monahan to quickly turn into their #1 priority. Boston is uber-thin at centre and has a chance to land some depth down the middle via free agency. The Bruins are going to be one of the more active teams this summer on the free-agent and trade market. The team knows Monahan very well from his days with the Montreal Canadiens.
Buffalo Sabres
Another team looking for more offense and a more balanced attack next season, the Sabres are going to have some interest. Tage Thompson and Dylan Cozens continue to lead the way and Monahan could provide some veteran stability on their second line. The Sabres are expected to lose a couple of their forwards to free agency so there's plenty of cap space to go around and expect them to be very interested in adding Monahan this summer.
