3 Potential Free-Agent Destinations for Adam Boqvist

The Columbus Blue Jackets are set to buy out defenseman Adam Boqvist. When noting that the 23-year-old is a former first-round pick who has shown signs of promise in the NHL, there should be plenty of interest in him on July 1. Let's discuss three teams that could look to sign him now.

Dallas Stars: The Dallas Stars will be looking to add to the right side of their defense in free agency. They already traded Chris Tanev's signing rights to the Toronto Maple Leafs, and Jani Hakanpaa also has an expiring deal. Thus, while Boqvist is more offensively-minded, the Stars could consider taking a shot on him on a short-term deal.

San Jose Sharks: The San Jose Sharks made it clear that they are moving on from Calen Addison this summer. Thus, they could look to sign an offensive defenseman, and Boqvist would make sense for them. As noted above, he is a former first-rounder with good upside. Perhaps joining a rebuilding team like the Sharks could help him turn things around.

Carolina Hurricanes: At this juncture, Tony DeAngelo has not been re-signed by the Carolina Hurricanes. If this remains the case, Boqvist could be a good replacement for him as a depth defender. Boqvist could also find success playing on a Hurricanes club that has some very good players.
