3 Potential Free-Agent Destinations for Ilya Samsonov

Ilya Samsonov will be an interesting player to watch in free agency this year. After a down season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, he is expected to be let go by the Original Six club. However, his past success should lead to teams calling this summer. Let's discuss three potential suitors now.

Winnipeg Jets: The Winnipeg Jets could be on the hunt for a new backup goalie this offseason, as Laurent Brossoit is a pending free agent. Due to this, Samsonov could be an interesting option for the Jets. He would give Winnipeg an experienced goaltender to back up Connor Hellebuyck, which would not be the worst thing.

Colorado Avalanche: The Colorado Avalanche could be in the market for a goalie this offseason. Alexandar Georgiev could use a smaller workload, and having Samsonov as their backup would give them that. On an affordable one-year deal, this could make sense for both parties.

Los Angeles Kings: The Los Angeles Kings are expected to browse the trade market for a star starting goalie. However, if the prices for a high-impact goalie on the trade market are too high, they may need to settle for a free agent. Samsonov could be a decent goalie to take a shot if signed to a short term deal. If he regains his previous form, he could even be a good answer for the Kings.
