Alexandre Texier Acquired By Blues From Blue Jackets & Signed

The St. Louis Blues added to their roster today as the team acquired Alexandre Texier from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for a fourth-round pick. Not only have the Blues brought in a new forward, they also signed him to a two-year deal at $2.1 million AAV.

The Blues are expected to let players like Kasperi Kapanen, Jakub Vrana, and Sammy Blais hit the open market on July 1, so Texier is a solid piece to add in place of any of them. He is 24 years old and returned to the NHL this season after a year off and produced 12 goals and 30 points in 78 games.

It was a bit crowded in Columbus, especially with younger and talented players coming into the lineup and needing spots. Texier can produce and may be missed in the Blue Jackets' lineup, but there really wasn't enough room for him.

This is a low-risk trade and signing for the Blues who it seems won this trade if the young forward can continue to produce like he has in his time in the NHL. Texier will fit in the bottom-6 of the Blues lineup, likely the third line, and give the team a bit of a bump in order for them to have a chance at climbing back into a playoff spot next season.
