Chinakhov, 23, had a breakout season for the Blue Jackets during the 2023-24 campaign, posting new career highs with 16 goals, 13 assists, and 29 points in 53 games. It was a big step in the right direction for the 2020 first-round pick, and he has landed this nice two-year deal with the Blue Jackets because of it.
With the Blue Jackets looking to get out of their rebuild, re-signing Chinakhov was really a no-brainer for them. He is among their many young promising forwards, and there is clear reason to believe that he has not hit his ceiling yet. He has the tools to become a key part of their top six, and this season effectively displayed that.
Chinakhov has earned this nice raise from the Blue Jackets, and it will be fun to see how he responds to it with his play. There is not too much risk in this move for the Blue Jackets, either, as they gave the young forward a bridge deal. Overall, it is a fair contract for both the player and the team.
We will now need to wait and see how much of an impact Chinakhov makes for the Blue Jackets during the duration of his deal from here.
