Huge Turn of Events For Canucks & Pending UFA Tyler Myers

Just a day after word circulated that the two sides might not be able to get a deal done ahead of free agency, the Vancouver Canucks and pending UFA defenseman Tyler Myers have agreed on a three-year, $3 million AAV extension.

The 6'8" rearguard was hoping to stay in Vancouver all along, but he and his agent noted a few weeks back that they knew they weren't first on the Cancuks' priority list this summer, so they had to sit tight. Their patience has paid off.

We got an ominous reading of the negotiations just yesterday, when insider Chris Johnson reported "Tyler Myers is a good bet now not to stay with the Canucks. I know he wanted to but it doesn't sound like the talks have been productive towards getting a deal."

The two sides buckled down over the last 24 hours, however, and Myers will line up on the Canucks' blueline for three more seasons.

He's spent the past five years in Vancouver, blocking a lot of shots and handing out a lot of hits with that 6'8", 230-pound frame. This past season Myers showed improved play, skating in 77 games for the Canucks, registering 29 points with a +16 rating (a career-high) in 19 minutes per night. He added 136 blocked shots and 110 hits.
