Canadiens Rumors: 3 Teams Targeting David Savard

David Savard was a very popular trade target leading up to the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline. However, the Montreal Canadiens elected to hold onto him for the remainder of the season. Now that we are in the offseason, Savard is starting to create plenty of chatter as a trade candidate again, and teams are expressing interest.

According to The Fourth Period, the Dallas Stars, Colorado Avalanche, and Winnipeg Jets are all linked to Savard.

Seeing that the Stars have an eye on Savard is not too surprising. They were linked to him during this season before they landed Chris Tanev. Furthermore, with Tanev and Jani Hakanpaa both having expired deals, the Stars will be forced to bring in another right-shot defender if one or both of them walk.

With Sean Walker having an expired deal, it is not too surprising to see that Savard is on their radar. Walker is expected to get a nice raise for his next deal after his strong season. Meanwhile, Savard carries an affordable $3.5 million cap hit, so he may be a more realistic option for the Avs at this juncture.

As for the Jets, defensemen Dylan DeMelo, Brenden Dillon, and Colin Miller all have expired deals, so it is wise that Winnipeg is looking at other options. Savard makes a plethora of sense for them, as he would not only help their right side but also has zero trade protection. Thus, the Jets could land him without any potential restrictions.
