Devils Rumors: New Jersey GM Making Trade Offers

The New Jersey Devils are reportedly aggressively working the phones looking to make a splash this summer. With the Stanley Cup Final almost wrapped up, expect to see a flurry of activity once the Cup is awarded and look for the Devils to be one of the few teams extremely active early on this offseason.

GM Tom Fitzgerald is trying to find some more gritty forwards up front and he's looking for a starting netminder who can push Jake Allen to the backup position. Fitzgerald has two young goalies he's likely dangling in Akira Schmid and Nico Daws, and he's also open to moving the 2024 first-round pick, 10th overall.

Fitzgerald was close to acquiring Jacob Markstrom last season from the Flames, but Calgary's upper management put an end to the trade talks. They could very well circle back, however there's been some growing speculation that Linus Ullmark of the Boston Bruins is their number one target with Filip Gustavsson of the Minnesota Wild also high on the list.

The Devils have felt the brunt of the injury bug the past couple of seasons and are hopeful with some more puck luck, better health and a new voice in Sheldon Keefe behind the bench, things can finally turn themselves around in New Jersey.

Fitzgerald enters the offseason with $19.1 million in cap space, 15 players currently signed to the NHL roster and a will to get a trade done and land a big fish this summer.
