Flyers Rumors: Cam Atkinson Linked to Sharks

Philadelphia Flyers forward Cam Atkinson has been creating plenty of chatter over the last few weeks. The Flyers have been contemplating the prospect of buying out the veteran winger from the final season of his contract after his down 2023-24 campaign. However, he is also starting to generate some trade interest.

According to NHL insider Darren Dreger, the San Jose Sharks are interested in acquiring Atkinson from the Flyers. However, Dreger also noted that Atkinson "isn't keen on a move to the Sharks."

Atkinson has a 10-team no-trade list, so he certainly has some say over where he will end up if he gets traded. Thus, the Flyers will need to do some convincing to try to get Atkinson to go to San Jose if they are on his no-trade list.

It makes sense that the Sharks have an interest in Atkinson. They are a rebuilding team that need to increase their team cap hit, so they are in a position to take a shot on Atkinson. In addition, they would likely get an extra asset or two for taking on his expensive contract.

Atkinson, 35, appeared in 70 games this past season for the Flyers, where he had 13 goals to go along with 28 points and a minus-22 rating. While it was a down year for Atkinson, there is hope that he can bounce back, as he just had 23 goals and 50 points in 73 games back in 2022-23.
