Hurricanes Rumors: Brett Pesce Likely Done in Carolina

Brett Pesce is one of the top defensemen who can hit free agency on July 1. Thus, the clock is ticking for the Carolina Hurricanes if they hope to get him inked to a new deal.

However, based on a recent update, Pesce's time with the Hurricanes appears likely to be over. According to The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta, Pesce will hit the market on July 1, barring a last-minute huge offer from the Hurricanes.

If Pesce does in fact reach free agency, he should have plenty of clubs interested in him. This is because he is arguably the top right-shot shutdown defenseman from this year's free agency class. Thus, teams looking to upgrade their top four with a reliable defensive defenseman will surely look to add Pesce.

Some specific teams who are expected to target Pesce in free agency include the Toronto Maple Leafs, Ottawa Senators, Edmonton Oilers, and Dallas Stars.

In 70 games this past season with the Hurricanes, Pesce had three goals to go along with 13 points, 113 blocks, and plus-10 rating. Overall, it was another solid year for the New York native, and he should be getting a nice payday because of it.

We will now need to wait and see where Pesce ends up landing from here.
