Islanders Rumors: 3 Teams Linked to Oliver Wahlstrom
New York Islanders forward Oliver Wahlstrom is expected to be shopped this summer. The former first-round pick struggled significantly this season and fell down the team's depth chart. Thus, a change of scenery is needed.
While Wahlstrom struggled this year, he is generating interest, as the Pittsburgh Penguins, Anaheim Ducks, and Chicago Blackhawks are linked to him, according to The Fourth Period.
The Penguins are certainly going to look to improve on the wings this offseason. It is an area that they need to strengthen, and taking a shot on Wahlstrom could be worthwhile because of it. He could fit in their top nine and on their power play.
The Ducks are rebuilding, so they are in a position to take a shot on Wahlstrom. He is a former top prospect who has shown promise in the NHL in the past. Perhaps getting a change of scenery and joining the Ducks could help him on that front.
As for the Blackhawks, they are also rebuilders who would give Wahlstrom the chance to play more meaningful minutes if acquired. When looking at their group, he would also work on their power play, as they do not have too many scorers to work with.
