Kings Rumors: Matt Roy finished in LA, set to hit free agency
The 2024 NHL offseason is here and the free-agent market is starting to take shape. There's a ton of right-handed defensemen available and this is going to include Matt Roy of the Los Angeles Kings.
Never say never, but all signs point to Matt Roy going to market. Kings and his camp haven’t been able to bridge the gap.

Roy, 29, is a stay-at-home defender who can play top-four minutes. Roy recorded 25 points in 81 games and is an above-average penalty killer. He's appeared in 18 Stanley Cup Playoff games throughout his six-year NHL career.
Matt Roy should be on the #NHLJets radar if he does indeed hit the open market. At 29 years old, he fits a clear need as a top-four RHD.

Roy is projected to make roughly $6 million per season on his next deal and is coming off a three-year $9.5 million contract. Because of the market this offseason, he's set to make significantly more on his next deal. The Kings have Jordan Spence, Brandt Clarke and newly acquired Kyle Borroughs on their right side for next season.
Once the likes of Chris Tanev and Nikita Zadorov are off the board in free agency, look for several teams to circle in as Roy as their primary target.
